Summer has well and truly arrived and we are here for it. Warm weather is well overdue after the cold months we endured earlier this year! With the emergence of a new season and all the excitement that comes with it, many homeowners will be looking to give their interior design a refresh during the sunny months. Here we have summarised some of our favourite trends that look set to stick around.
Earthy Tones
Calming colours in the form of earthy tones are very much in this year – adding an extra link to the natural vibes that have been present for quite some time now. This natural, warm tone allows for a variety of colours to be added in, making it suitable for a variety of tastes. Earthy tones also allow for a variety of materials and textures to be incorporated into a room. Try pine skirting boards in their natural state to add an extra nod to natural materials that will be timeless.
Cottagey
Cute and cottagey has been a popular interior design choice throughout the decades, and this year it’s back again. Granny Chic has been all over Instagram for a while, and this is another take on it. Cottage vibes are all about a romantic interpretation of rural life and simpler times, perhaps evoked by the pandemic and having to evaluate how we live our everyday lives. Think traditional armchairs, patterned wallpaper, generous curtains and blankets. An overall comforting trend that suits a variety of tastes.
Pantone Colour of the Year 2021
Pantone colours are industry-standard colour codes that stand for a specific shade, every year they release their Pantone colour of the year which naturally works its way into popular trends. This year the colours are a contrasting ‘Illuminating’ yellow and ‘Ultimate Grey’. Pantone says: “Practical and rock-solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, the two shades together create a strong and positive vibe.”
Why not incorporate both of these amazing colours into your space? We envision a beautiful grey wall with a pop of yellow in the form of window sills or skirting boards.
Nature
Incorporating plants into space has been a long time popular choice for so many for a reason. Not only do plants illuminate and complement a room, but they also bring a sense of calm and purify the air you’re breathing. Summer is a perfect time to find your green fingers and you will find plants bring a welcome sense of nature and life during the darker winter months too.
Plants can be present on your walls in hangers, placed on your window sill, bigger plants make a great statement on the floor and smaller plants can be included wherever fits your space best!
Adaptable Spaces
For many of us, working from home will be a permanent thing following the pandemic. Not everyone has a dedicated room ready to be converted into a home office, so it is important to build spaces that can be flexible for home working and living. Finding a zone for your workspace helps it to feel separate from your living area. This can be achieved in several ways, including simple additions such as rugs, lighting, alcoves, colour schemes and of course furniture.
