How to Design Your Bedroom

Enduring sporadic lockdowns over the past year has been a part of all of our lives. Being stuck at home all day will offer inspiration for change in the space in which you are being forced to spend so much time, right?

We can guess that a lot of you will spend time in your bedrooms, (if you’re anything like us and think beds are the best invention ever). The importance of enjoying this personal space and the vibe that it gives off is not to be underestimated. So why not treat yourself? Re-design your bedroom and it could be a game-changer for the time that you spend at home.

Decide Your Style

Before you start decorating, decide the style you’re going for. Whether it’s modern, minimalist, Scandinavian or industrial, choose the design style that best suits your taste, personality and needs.

Choose a Colour Scheme

Once the bedroom design style is sorted, have a think about what colours you want in your bedroom. You might want to stick to a neutral palette, experimenting with beige, creams and browns. Or if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, you might want to go for a bold, rich tone such as royal blue or forest green. Whichever you decide, make sure you have an image in your mind of what you want. You might want to create a few Pinterest boards or get the scrapbook out to bring your ideas to life!

Prioritise Your Needs

Whether you’re working with a big or small bedroom, you need to prioritise what it is that you need from your space. Perhaps you need a desk for working from home or a large makeup unit to store all your cosmetics. You might want a built-in cupboard to fill with clothes, or a minimalist rack to showcase your favourite pieces.

Think about the details such as lighting, organisation and practicality. Whichever way or method you choose, make sure it is personal to you and your needs.

Decoration

You’ve got your mood boards, ready, your vision is already coming to life. Now for the messy part! When it comes to decorating, make sure you know what you’re doing and that you have an eye of expertise to help out where necessary.

Painting may look easy, but it’s not difficult to end up with walls that look like sandpaper. Do your research and take advice wherever possible. Install pieces into your room that will look the part, but play a huge role for practicality. For the perfect example, skirting boards can be the cherry on top to finish your space, looking beautiful and aiding practical requirements such as protection, insulation and dust avoidance. Research essential steps such as how to fit skirting boards.

Accessorise

  • Cushions
  • Throws
  • Lighting – Lamps and fairy lights
  • Wall wart

I recently purchased some Oak Victorian Skirting from Skirting Boards Direct. I am very happy with the quality of the Boards. I ordered them on the Saturday and they were delivered on the following Wednesday, which was fantastic.
